Meet Dr. Cindy T. Denkhaus, licensed clinical psychologist specializing in anxiety, creativity, and high sensitivity in the San Francisco Bay Area, California
Welcome to my practice! Over the past 15 years, I have studied and worked in the field of mental health and personal development, helping people to heal the internal obstacles and barriers that have kept them from experiencing more feelings of satisfaction, ease and self-trust.
My approach to therapy is holistic and depth oriented, meaning that I find it is helpful to get to the root of whatever patterns or problems are keeping you feeling like things are stuck or not working anymore. Therapy with me is a guided and collaborative process where I facilitate a space for us to address the issues you would like to work on together. I do not believe in a “one-size fits all” approach to therapy. Our time together is specifically designed for you to get the most out of your investment, to gain significant insights about yourself and make real progress with the problems you wish to address. My theoretical orientation is psychodynamic, feminist, culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed.
I have worked with many different types of people over the years and have in-depth knowledge of a wide variety of psychological problems and psychiatric conditions. My passion, however, is working with people who tend to be high-achieving, analytical and creative thinkers who can sometimes get bogged down by their own thinking, sensitivity, empathy and desire to do “what’s right.”
Whether you are looking for a therapist for yourself or for you and your partner, setting up a free intro call is the best way to get started to see how we may work best together.

More About Dr. Denkhaus
Dr. Denkhaus received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2016. She spent her postdoctoral fellowship working as an in-house therapist to art students at the California College of the Arts. In her original doctoral research, Dr. Denkhaus studied women’s psychological development in relation to their personal journal writing practices across the lifespan. Dr. Denkhaus additionally holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Brooklyn College in New York and is a graduate of the Creative Arts Therapy certificate program at the New School University.
Prior to her training in psychology, Dr. Denkhaus completed a Master’s degree in Music Business at New York University and worked in the Creative Department of Sony Bertelsmann Music Group on Madison Avenue where she helped to develop media content for multi-platinum recording artists, such as Beyoncé and John Legend. Her Master’s thesis looked at the “gender gap” in the Artists and Repertoire (A&R) departments of major record labels, noting women’s absence in this specialized area of the recording industry in the early 2000s.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Denkhaus attended Oberlin College where she studied English Literature, Film and Women’s Studies. She performed with the Oberlin dance ensemble, VIBE, was a student of the Technology in Music and the Performing Arts (TIMARA) program at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and acted as director of on-air programming for the college’s radio station, WOBC.
In addition to her love of psychology, psychotherapy and personal transformation work, Dr. Denkhaus is passionate about women’s issues and the expressive arts. She identifies as a highly sensitive person (HSP) and is a provider of HSP-specific therapy. She lives in the Bay Area where she enjoys writing, spending time in nature and raising her daughters.
